CHOSEN from hundreds of applicants nationwide, Warrington student Dillon Hillary will be collaborating with 12 other young people on the UK’s first-ever Further Education (FE) Youth Collective.
Created by the Association of Colleges, this crucial initiative helps to ensure that decision-making in further education is considerate of the lived experiences of students across the country. The panel will act as a collective voice, where their opinions, observations and judgement will be put at the heart of future decision making for further education institutions.
Dillon has always been an active participant in college life at Warrington & Vale Royal College, making the most of the enrichment programme and Student Council opportunities on offer. Dillon is the college’s Diversity & Equality Representative, and will be using his dedication to these causes to make a real change in the current FE policy-making process.
When he saw that applications were open to be a part of the FE Youth Collective, Dillon jumped at the chance to get involved, seeing an opportunity to make a difference for all students as he has done for so many at the college so far. He said:“I knew I wanted to be a part of this fantastic opportunity. I love college and I want all students to feel as confident and supported in further education as I am. Now to I have been appointed, I can’t wait to get started!”
The college’s Student Engagement Officer, Courteney Ford, was delighted when Dillon received his appointment to the group and feels assured that this is the perfect role for him. She said:
“I couldn’t be happier for Dillon. Whatever he does within the college, he always impresses me with his enthusiasm and dedication. Now, he gets to make a difference at a national level and I am sure he will do a fantastic job!”
Dillon will be attending his first meeting in Burton upon Trent later this month and the college wishes him every success in his new endeavour.
