Jackie Currie, Interim Executive Director, Operations provides an update on student Maintenance Loan payments.
Time really does fly. It feels like only yesterday that we were getting ready to make the first maintenance loan payments to students starting the 22/23 academic year – but here we are already in mid-January, having made the second round of maintenance loan payments.
We have paid out £2.3bn to one million students in the first couple of weeks of the new year. And with some courses starting the first term in January, we will be paying a further £500 million throughout the month, as well as our next tranche of tuition fee payments to higher education providers.
As always, we’re looking ahead and colleagues across the company are hard at work getting ready to open our 23/24 academic year application service in the early spring for full-time higher education undergraduate applications.
There’s a lot to think about and sort through when preparing to go to college or university, so anybody who’s considering studying in the 23/34 academic year should get their student finance sorted out as soon the service opens.
