    The Public Affairs section of the U.S. Embassy at Bridgetown, Barbados maintains and manages an Information Resource Center (IRC), and manages the Fulbright, Hubert Humphrey and other educational exchange programs in the Eastern Caribbean.
    The Information Resource Center (IRC) has access to eLibrary USA, Lexis-Nexis and other online data bases and can answer reference questions from government officials, academics, organizations and individuals on U.S. issues. The IRC subscribes to a number of paper and electronic U.S. magazines, and newspapers.

    Study & Exchange
    The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.

    Grant Opportunities
    The U.S. Embassy Bridgetown Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. This is an Annual Program Statement, outlining our funding priorities, U.S. foreign policy objectives, and the procedures for submitting requests for funding.
    International Visitor Leadership Program
    The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) was founded in 1940 to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other countries, through carefully designed visits that reflect the participants’ professional interests and support U.S. foreign policy goals.
    Youth Ambassadors Program
    The Youth Ambassadors Program aims to develop a cadre of young adults from across countries in the Americas who have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a commitment to their communities, an awareness of current and global issues, and strong interpersonal leadership skills. The program aims to promote mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration between people in the United States and other countries of the Western Hemisphere. The program is open to teenagers ages 15-18 and adult educators (mentors).
    Academy for Women Entrepreneurs
    To augment the existing slate of projects focused on women and economic empowerment, the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) launched the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a new program supporting the growth of women entrepreneurs around the world. AWE was developed to support the White House-led Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative, which is designed to empower women worldwide to fulfill their economic potential, creating conditions for increased stability, security, and prosperity for all. The target is to reach 50 million women by 2025 by promoting an enabling environment that reduces barriers and facilitates women’s participation in the economy.
    Information Resource Center
    The U.S. Information Resource Center (IRC) at the Embassy at Wildey engages in outreach programs to youth, schools and libraries in the Eastern Caribbean, and oversees American Corners located in the public libraries in Antigua and Dominica.

    The Office of American Spaces oversees a network of 600 open-access cultural centers.

    There are five major scholarship options available to Citizens of the Caribbean who are interested in pursuing academic studies in the United States.
    Fulbright Foreign Student Program
    U.S. Embassy Bridgetown encourages applications from qualified graduates in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program.
    The Fulbright LASPAU Faculty Development Program
    The Fulbright Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities (LASPAU) also known as the Fulbright Faculty Development Program provides grants to individuals from Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean to enable them to pursue graduate studies in the United States. Grants are awarded for Master’s and PhD programs in a variety of fields of study.
    Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
    This distinguished program brings accomplished mid-level professionals to the United States for a year of combined academic (non-degree) and professional work. Fellows are selected based on potential for leadership and commitment to public service.
    Private Scholarships
    Private organizations offer scholarship opportunities to non-US citizens for study in the United States. Private scholarships often target specific demographics or students interested in specific areas of study. The following are examples of available scholarships.
    International Writing Program Fellowship
    U.S. Embassy Bridgetown is pleased to invite writers who are citizens of and who reside in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines to apply to the twelve-week International Writer’s Program (IWP) at the University of Iowa’s prestigious international residency program.
